Removing Personal Information from Search Results
Removing a page from a broker's site is the first step. Removing it from search results is the second.
Google's tools
- Results about you. Google lets people request removal of search results that show their personal contact information, such as phone number, home address, or email address. It can also notify you when new results with your contact information appear.
- Outdated content removal. If a page has already been changed or deleted but still appears in results, you can ask Google to refresh or remove the outdated result.
What search removal does and does not do
Removing a result from search does not remove the page from the internet. It only makes it harder to find through that search engine. Always remove the source first when possible.
Building positive results
One effective long-term strategy is to make sure that accurate, harmless pages rank above data-broker listings when someone searches your name. Professional profiles and legitimate pages you control or approve can push broker listings down.
