Protecting Your Family's Privacy
People-search profiles link relatives together. Protecting yourself means protecting them too.
Why family matters
People-search sites routinely list relatives. Even if your own listing is removed, your spouse's or parent's listing may show your name and your shared address. Treat removal as a household project.
Spouses and adult children
- Run the Removal Playbook for each adult household member.
- Coordinate on social media settings and posting habits.
- Agree on what information is never shared publicly, such as deployment dates or travel plans.
Minor children
- Freeze their credit. Parents can request freezes for minors at each bureau.
- School and activity records. Ask schools and leagues how they publish rosters and photos, and opt out where possible.
- Photos. Avoid posting images that reveal schools, uniforms, or routines.
Parents and older relatives
Older relatives are frequent targets of scams that use information about their children. Help them freeze their credit, remove listings, and recognize impersonation attempts.
